A Year of Conservation Success & Renewed Momentum

November 14, 2022

This year was another wild success for us at the Marin Agricultural Land Trust (MALT) and so much of that is thanks to y’all—the community that supports our work protecting the working landscape of Marin County. We really couldn’t do it without you.

Since I don’t think we can say it enough, thank you for everything you do for MALT. From your generous donations to attending our events, watching our videos, reading our newsletters, tuning in on Facebook or following along on Instagram, we appreciate each and every one of you and what you do to support our organization.

Watch the video below from our new executive director, Lily Verdone, and hear the latest from our work protecting and stewarding this amazing landscape. Onwards!

You make it possible – thank you.

This year, MALT:

• Allocated $250,000 in funding for our Drought Resilience and Water Security (DRAWS) initiative, bringing the total to $750,000 for water security projects since the projects launch in April of 2021.

• Supported the renewal of Measure A, which is projected to bring $14 million dollars annually for parks, open spaces, fire prevention, land stewardship and farmland protection.

• Protected the McDowell Ranch near Tomales, a 723-acre property deemed “Farmland of Local Importance” by the California Department of Conservation.

• Allocated $1 million dollars to our land stewardship programs this fiscal year, the largest allocation of funding of this kind in our organization’s history.

• Relaunched a robust community events program after a temporary hiatus due to the pandemic restrictions. So good to see everyone again on the land!

• Surpassed more than 55,000 acres of MALT-protected land, comprising 92 agricultural conservation easements.

With five more land protection projects in the work totaling over 3,600 acres, this next year is looking to be very fruitful. And with our team now fully staffed after the turmoil of the pandemic, our sleeves are rolled and we’re ready to go to work.

Stay tuned for more good news from MALT!
