The Position
Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Accounting Manager is a part-time, non-exempt position (20-25 hours/week) responsible for processing accounts payable and payroll, maintaining financial records, supporting the month-end and year-end close processes and contributing to various financial analyses while adhering to generally accepted accounting principles, and the MALT system of internal controls to safeguard assets through adherence to policies and procedures.
About You
- Bachelor’s or AA degree in accounting or related field, and a minimum of 3 years’ experience working in fund accounting, or any combination of education and work experience which would provide an opportunity to acquire the knowledge and abilities listed herein.
- Experience and knowledge of accounting principles for non-profit organizations (GAAP)
- Working knowledge of accounting department routine processes and procedures
- Knowledge of medium-scale computerized non-profit accounting systems, Sage MIP desirable
- Excellent interpersonal and business communication skills, written and verbal
- High level of organization, attention to detail, follow-through, and multi-tasking skills
- Excellent computer skills (Google Workspace, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, communications systems)
- Ability to comply with organizational policies and procedures, and maintain organizational and industry policies regarding confidentiality
- Experience working with a nonprofit Board of Directors and Board Committees desirable
- Non-profit grants accounting and administration experience, desirable
Key Responsibilities
Day to Day
Responsible for day-to-day functioning of the finance and accounting department, including:
- Process cash and check deposits as needed
- Perform all payroll processing tasks
- Review and process accounts payable transactions, requests for disbursements, and employee expense reimbursements
- Ensure proper documentation and levels of approval for all expenditures, and compliance with organizational policies
- Organize and maintain payment and other finance and accounting department supporting documents; ensure all necessary information is accurate and complete
- Support the monitoring of investments as needed
- Assist with grant administration in the accounting system
Month and Year-End
Support month-end and year-end close of accounting system including:
- Compile information to be used in the monthly and quarterly financial reporting documents
- Record cash receipts, cash disbursements and journal voucher entries; run financial reports as directed
- Perform general accounting analysis and reconciliations, including bank and investment accounts, receivables, accruals, and prepaid expenses
- Prepare filings for compliance with multi-state registration requirements
- Monitor and report department budget versus actual performance as directed
- Preparation of annual 1099 and 1096 reporting
Audit
Participate in annual audit and tax filing preparation as directed
Budget Planning Support
Support budget planning as directed
Board Committee Support
Support Finance and Investment and Audit committees, including:
- Assist in the preparation of agendas and packets for quarterly meetings
- Attend meetings to take notes/minutes as needed
Additional Responsibilities
- Respond to ad hoc reporting requests
- Assist with office services as requested
- Assist with MALT special events as requested
Compensation and Benefits
This is a full-time, non-exempt position with a flexible schedule that accommodates in-person and work-from-home schedules, requiring weekly presence in MALT’s office in Point Reyes Station, and the West Marin community.
Hourly Range: $39.50 – $48.50
