Community Business Partner Spotlight: Heffernan Foundation

September 15, 2020

MALT is honored to welcome a new community business partner to our family: the Heffernan Foundation.

Since its founding in 1988, Heffernan Insurance has prioritized community. Employee owned and client-centered, Heffernan offers comprehensive business and personal insurance, as well employee benefits and financial-service products that value people and place.

Heffernan demonstrates similar leadership in its commitment to philanthropy. For nearly 20 years, Heffernan has donated more than 10 percent of profits annually to local nonprofit organizations, taking a step further in 2006 to launch the Heffernan Foundation, which supports Heffernan’s dedication and commitment to social responsibility through employee philanthropy, volunteerism and education. Every year, Heffernan branch offices recommend nonprofit organizations that serve the communities where Heffernan employees work and live to be recipients of generous financial gifts from the Heffernan Foundation.

“I’m proud to be a part of a company that knows the importance of giving back to the community.”

Heffernan Foundation Executive Director, Michelle Lonaker

This year, Heffernan’s Petaluma branch turned to their existing clients for referrals. Lucky for us, Point Reyes Farmstead Cheese Company, located on MALT-protected Giacomini Ranch, and longtime Heffernan client Albert Straus, owner of MALT-protected Blakes Landing Farms, both recommended MALT.

Heffernan Foundation has contributed more than $11 million to various nonprofits throughout the United States, awarded $960,000 toward education scholarships and donated more than 961,500 meals to local food banks since 2006.
