Having enough good, clean water is critical to the health of your land, the health of your herd and the daily operations of your farm or ranch. Healthy waterways are also critical for the environment and any community downstream. And yet the responsibility to protect and restore streams, creeks and riparian corridors is often put on you — the farmer, rancher or landowner. These areas provide important ecosystem services and public benefits but can be cost prohibitive and challenging to protect.
MALT’s Stewardship Assistance Program (SAP) is here to help.
How can MALT help me protect my streams and creeks?
SAP can help you plan, design and/or pay for:
- Creek and riparian fencing to limit livestock impacts and to allow riparian areas to rest during vulnerable wet periods.
- Livestock water infrastructure to provide a clean and reliable water source away from streams and creeks.
- Creek planting and restoration to protect stream banks from erosion, reduce downstream flooding and improve wildlife habitat.
- Erosion control measures like keeping plant cover in drainages, stabilizing gullies and stream banks and reducing sediment transport from roads, crossings and trailing.
SAP will also help you navigate the planning and permitting processes for these projects, connect you with other partner organizations and look for additional funding sources.
