Supporter Spotlight: Nicole C. Brown

May 5, 2020

Director of Individual Philanthropy, 826 Valencia Mill Valley, CA | MALT monthly donor since 2015

A triathlete and avid cyclist, Nicole Brown has been giving to MALT monthly since 2015. Already familiar with land trusts after a stint volunteering for one while living in Idaho, Nicole says it was the MALT roadside signs that first caught her eye after she’d relocated back to the Bay Area. “I’d see the signs when I was out riding my bike, so I looked MALT up and got involved!” she says.

A fundraiser herself, Nicole serves as the director of individual philanthropy for 826 Valencia in San Francisco, an organization dedicated to supporting under-resourced students with their writing skills. From a donor perspective, what Nicole likes about giving monthly is the regularity. “I like seeing those debits in my account each month and knowing that my gifts, however modest, are helping to make a difference, helping MALT by providing reliable funding.”

Nicole is the daughter of a rodeo queen, so agriculture is near and dear to her heart. “My mom, grandmother and great-grandmother grew up on a cattle ranch in Southern Idaho,” she recalls, “and I think that’s why the agricultural aspect of MALT’s work speaks to me. Many of my maternal cousins are fifth- and sixth-generation ranchers, and I truly believe that West Marin — one of my favorite places in the world — would not be what it is today without MALT’s work to protect farmland.”
